Navigation: Broken
The exhibition NAVIGATION:BROKEN took place at Achtergracht 17-19, Amsterdam, from 20 August to 9 September 2026. It presented work by five Russian critical artists living in exile in the Netherlands: Natallia Kasavarskaya, Elena Taranenko, Paulina Siniatkina, Alice Femina, and Elena Yakimushkina.
The exhibition took its title from a founding image in Russian-Dutch history: Peter the Great's voyage to a Dutch shipyard, and the "window to Europe" that followed. The past decade has broken that instrument at the level of interstate relations. NAVIGATION:BROKEN asked what remains of it in the cultural field, through five artists' individual methods of finding a bearing once the old map no longer holds.
